does tai chi help you with physical fitness or weight loss?
im in it for the mental part but does it help with the physical part.
Tai Chi is good for some specific things like bone density and lower body muscle toning. Tai Chi won’t do much for weight loss or physical conditioning unless you do the long forms as taught by a real Tai Chi instructor. The New Agey Tai Chi schools (like the Taoist Tai Chi Society) tend to not teach the forms in the classical manner, nor breathing, nor do they teach the martial applications of the postures.
You might want to consider some form of Kung Fu that suits your temperament because Kung Fu schools generally stress physical conditioning and much of the same types of forms as Tai Chi. In fact, it’s generally considered that Kung Fu systems utilize Tai Chi postures.
